Abstract
Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, and Fort Bragg Army Installation, North Carolina, use environmental databases that are GIS-based. The databases include water-resource information that must be regularly updated. This is a very labor-intensive effort. Field data collection using mobile technology streamlines data entry, integrates GPS information on-site, and aids in efficiency of data collection. The integration of existing GIS databases, the establishment of field data collection forms, and the advantages and challenges encountered using GIS-based mobile technology are discussed in this paper.
